August 27, 2000: The Steelers reduced their roster today to the NFL max of 53 players. The veterans released included LB Gabe Northern, OL Greg Huntington, OL Anthony Brown, S Lance Brown. LB Chad Kelsay; DL Ernie Brown. TE Matt Cushing, RB Pepe Pearson, QB Anthony Wright. The rookies waived were WR Danny Farmer, FB Dan Kreider, OL Hank Fraley, and DT Al Lucas.

August 23, 2000: The Steelers made 4 roster moves today, Reggie Lowe and Nakia Codie were waived and Demetrius Brown and Lloyd Clemons were released.

August 21, 2000: The Steelers released 10 players today and added 1 to the P,U,P list. Players Waived were - Chris Conrad ,Kris Farris ,Todd Burger ,Shawn McWashington, Players released - Joey Goodspeed ,Kyle Atteberry ,Jason Gavadza ,Tim Strickland ,Jonathan Foster and Johnny Mitchell. Will Blackwell was placed on PUP.

July 21, 2000: The Steelers finally reached a contract agreement with their final unsigned 2000 Draft pick. CB Hank Poteat, a 5-10, 190-pound 3b selection from the University of Pittsburgh,signed a multi-year contract with the Steelers today and is expected in training camp late Friday night. Terms of the deal were not released.

July 20, 2000: The Pittsburgh Steelers and 1st round draft pick Plaxico Burress agreed today to a 5 year deal. Burress's deal is beleived to be worth $8.667 million, including a signing bonus of $5.5 million.

July 12, 2000: Pittsburgh Steelers nose tackle Joel Steed retired Tuesday because of knee problems and his impending release from the team. Steed said he was ``fortunate'' to be able to play his entire eight-year NFL career in Pittsburgh. Joel was and still is what Steeler football is all about,Happy retirement Joel you'll be missed by all.

July 07, 2000: The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed two of their seven draft choices, reaching deals with wide receiver Danny Farmer and linebacker Clark Haggans. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Haggans, a fifth round choice, set the Colorado State career record with 34 sacks, including eight as a senior while playing as a defensive end. He is projected to play OLB with Pittsburgh. Farmer, a 6-foot-3, 217-pound receiver from UCLA was selected in the fourth round. Steelers Wide receiver Will Blackwell had surgery to repair damage to his left knee and will miss the start of Pittsburgh Steelers' training camp and is not expected to be ready for the season opener.

June 20, 2000 : Former Bills LB/DE Gabe Northern has signed a two-year contract with the Steelers worth an estimated $1.6mil dollars.Northern will compete with second year LB Joey Porter for the starting job at OLB.

May 30, 2000: Steelers agree to a 2-year contract with former Panthers S Brent Alexander (Terms Undisclosed). Steelers also cut S Travis Davis.

May 18, 2000:Steelers lose another executive Dan Ferens, their chief contract negotiator who spent the past 19 years in their front office leaves June 1 2000, to work the other side as a financial guru.

Monday Nov.1 1999 Walter Payton Chicago Bears RB and the NFL's all time leading rusher died at the age of 45.Payton had suffered from primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare liver disease that could only be cured by a transplant. He'd been on a waiting list for a transplant for nine months.This is indeed a sad day for football fans everywhere."Sweetness you'll be missed by all".
